Ibarra, the capital of Imbabura Province carries its name in honor of Don Miguel de Ibarra VI, President of the Real Audiencia of Quito who ordered the city’s founding with the mandate of King Felipe of Spain the 28th of September, 1606.
The “White City” was a Spanish Villa in colonial times and still keeps the feeling. Reminders of the living past can be found throughout the city where they are blended harmoniously with the modern life of this growing region.
In the Ibarra valley it’s as if springtime is permanent and this relaxing climate and its green fields make this a natural oasis.
